Footfall now less than 10% off pre-Covid levels

// UK footfall was less than 10% lower 2019’s pre-Covid levels
// Footfall rose across all retail destinations week on week with high streets outperforming both shopping centres and retail parks

Footfall was less than 10% below 2019’s pre-Covid levels for the first time since the start of pandemic last week, according to analysts Springboard.
The gap narrowed due both to steady gains in visitor numbers made over recent weeks and weak comparisons in 2019.

UK footfall rose modestly across all retail destinations last week with high streets outperforming both shopping centres and retail parks.

The high street benefitted due to mild weather, which tempted shoppers to visit external locations.

The continued shift of employees back to their offices also helped, evidenced by a far greater rise in traffic in central London and regional cities across the UK versus outer London and market towns, which are synonymous with home working.

Footfall rose week on week each day until Thursday, but declined from Friday onwards as it was compared to the strong Bank Holiday the prior week.
