The Hut Group’s (THG) CEO Matthew Moulding took home just £20,000 last year after giving almost his entire salary of £750,000 to charity.

According to This is Money, the embattled boss also waived his entitlement to a bonus after it was revealed THG spent £797,000 on private security for Moulding between 2020 and 2021.

The group initially thought this was tax deductible, resulting in the figure not having to be disclosed, however, following talks with HMRC, this was not the case.

Moulding was not the only boss at the group to donate most of his salary to charity, with finance boss John Gallemore also taking home just £20,000 from his £430,000 salary.

The news comes as last month THG reported a rise in full-year profits and revenues as it confirmed it has received “indicative proposals” from firms interested in buying the business.

For the financial year ended 31 December 2021, THG said it was “delivering well ahead” of its revenue and expansion targets with sales at £2.2 billion and adjusted EBITDA of £161.3 million.
