Wickes has teamed up with Letchworth Garden Shed to launch Pick ‘n’ Wickes, a trial initiative aimed at helping consumers cut costs and reduce waste.

The scheme partners with Letchworth Garden Shed, part of the UK’s expanding library of things network, to provide community groups and local charities with everyday Wickes DIY products that aren’t available to borrow. This support makes it easier for consumers to tackle home projects.

Originating in the US, libraries of things have gained momentum across the UK, allowing communities to borrow items like gardening tools and sewing machines and return them after use.

As part of the Wickes Community Programme, the company has donated a wide range of practical essentials to Letchworth Garden Shed, encouraging a resourceful approach to home improvement that helps local residents save money.

The donated products include nails, plugs, nuts and bolts, brackets, washers, jigsaw blades, PPE, staples, sanding sheets, wood screws, mixed screw sets, and storage boxes.

The DIY retailer’s community engagement manager Hannah Randle Hockin said: “We’re really proud to support a project that makes DIY even more accessible for local community groups.

“The Letchworth Library of Things is a brilliant resource, and it’s great to see communities coming together to share tools.

“We’re glad we could play a small part by donating the everyday essentials that help make these projects possible.”

The move as Wickes continues to perform well, with the home improvement giant recently posting strong sales growth during the first half of the year.

Group revenue rose 5.6% year-on-year to £847.9m in the 26 weeks to 28 June 2025, with retail sales up 6.8% and Design & Installation revenue increasing 2.1%.
