Central England Co-op has been awarded industry leading awards for the third time in three years for its work reducing carbon emissions, waste and water use.
The grocer demonstrated its ongoing commitment to the environment by achieving the standards, which are internationally recognised environmental certifications for reducing organisational water use and waste and carbon outputs.
This score puts the retailer alongside only three others that hold all three of the standards – Booker, Harrods and Selfridges.

“The ongoing reductions made by Central England Co-op demonstrate real progress,” Carbon Trust associate director John Newton said.
“Achieving reductions year on year becomes harder over time, so recertifying to these standards is certainly something for the business to be proud of.”
The Carbon Trust Standard is among the world’s leading independent certifications of an organisation’s environmental sustainability achievements.
Central England Co-op secured the standards for a third time due to its long-term efforts to tackle sustainability across all of its business operations as part of its CRS.
Initiatives to achieve the milestone included the installation of new energy efficient refrigeration technologies across its stores.
Measures such as this helped reduce its carbon footprint by 61 per cent since 2010.
