Howay man! Amazon Prime Now arrives in Newcastle

News

Amazon announced today that it will be extending its one hour delivery service Prime Now to Newcastle and the North East.

This marks the third location where Amazon Prime users will be able to benefit from the service, which launched in London and Birmingham earlier this year.

“We‘re thrilled to expand our one-hour delivery service to Newcastle, our latest Prime Now city in the UK,” said Christopher North, managing Director at Amazon.co.uk. “We have already received great responses from Prime Now customers in London and Birmingham and we‘ve seen high demand on everything from essentials such as nappies and toiletries to must-have video games and toys – we are excited to be delivering to more customers in record-breaking time.”

Customers can choose delivery within one hour for £6.99, or within a choice of two-hour, same-day delivery slots free of charge. One of the fastest orders to date was a USB cable and a set of replacement electric toothbrush heads, which were delivered 14 minutes after being ordered.

While this service will make more than 15,000 products available to Prime customers, it comes at a time when retailers are beginning to struggle under the strain of providing competitive delivery options. Although Black Friday and Christmas shopping will no doubt bolster the number of customers using Prime Now, it remains to be seen whether this service can be financially sustained for the foreseeable future.
