Fortnum and Mason are among a string of retailers to open a new store at Heathrow Terminal 5 as retailers move into the booming travel sector.

The 1,000 sq ft store will focus on food gifting such as its famous hampers and will sell fresh food and drink such as smoked salmon and caviar in its bar.

The move follows Fortnum and Masons first store opening in over 300 years at St Pancras station.

Ewan Venters, chief executive of Fortnum & Mason, commented: “Heathrow is the UK‘s hub airport and the first impression of the country for more than 35 million passengers a year. At Fortnum‘s we have three centuries experience of serving customers travelling the globe, so it‘s fitting we should now serve passengers flying to some of the world‘s most glamorous locations.”

The new store and bar will create around 40 new jobs.

Last year, up to July 2013 the retailer posted a 10 per cent sales rise of £65m and profit before tax of £1.8m, a five-fold increase on the previous year.
