Dixons and Carphone Warehouse have completed their long awaited merger as it opens the first of its seven ‘shops in shops.‘

Group chief executive of Dixons Carphone Sebastian James said it was “a big day” for the company as it launched as a listed company on the stock exchange.

The new shops in shops will be in existing Currys & PC World stores in London, Watford, Cambridge, Buckinghamshire, Preston, Oxfordshire and Derby. A further 23 shops will be opened in time for Christmas.

“We are off to a flying start”, he said. “We‘re creating an organisation for the future where the products are just the beginning. We will not only help customers to access the technology and the connectivity that is right for them, but also find the expertise and services that bring them to life – the first and best company to offer this complete end-to-end proposition.”

The new retailer will consist of 3,000 stores with over 40,000 employees across 14 European countries. Shares were up 2 per cent in morning trading.
