High street fashion retailer Karen Millen has opened a new flagship store in Fifth avenue, New York as it begins its US expansion.

The 5,000 sq ft store will be followed by further stores over the next three years and hopes to grow its highly successful partnership with Bloomingdales from 15 to 20 locations.

Karen Millen says it wants to become the leading accessible luxury fashion womenswear brand across the world.

“There‘s strong demand for British – especially London-led – creativity and design expertise across the world and particularly in the US. With every Karen Millen piece designed, cut and finished in our Shoreditch atelier, the new 5th Avenue flagship is the perfect destination and backdrop for our collections” said Gemma Metheringham, CCO of Karen Millen.

Karen Millen is one of a string of British retailers such as Cath Kidston, Clarks and Burberry who have claimed international success in recent years. The company says that 70 per cent sales come from international markets. The company was founded in 1981 and was bought by Icelandic group Aurora fashions in 2009 before being spun out to become an independent company in 2011.
