Facebook‘s Messenger platform, which currently has 900m active monthly users, will launch three new tools; Messenger Codes, Messenger Usernames and Messenger Links.

Facebook users simply need to scan a particular code in order to start a conversation on the Messenger platform.

This could play a significant role in brands’ customer relationship management. A retailer could include a code image in a campaign, for example. Were this code to be scanned by a customer, they will then be be linked through to a direct message with the brand on Facebook Messenger. According to Marketing Week, this, Facebook hopes, will make the platform a defining customer service tool should a consumer have a query for a brand.

“We‘ve taken special care to make Messenger Codes as beautifully designed as possible so you can use them everywhere – on business cards, online, or in-store and anywhere else you like,” said Facebook.

“We can‘t wait to see how businesses embrace these new tools.”
