Friday Fun One: Twitter’s reaction to M&S’s “Santa’s Yumnut”

Marks & Spencer may have just launched its Christmas ad campaign today, but this didn’t stop it from introducing a new festive-themed treat that has tickled many Twitter users.

Earlier this week, the food arm of M&S launched a new sweet treat for their in-store bakeries, called Santa’s Yumnut.

The Yumnut – M&S has even trademarked the name – is a hybrid between a doughnut and a yum yum, a twisted doughnut glazed with Christmas-themed icing.

Nonetheless, many people were taken aback not just by the name of the treat, but by how M&S’s Twitter account also asked “who wants a bite of Santa’s Yumnut”?

The seemingly innocent tweet went viral, with a combination of people asking who in the marketing department signed off the risqué name, and people just making jokes.

M&S itself was also found to be defending the Santa’s Yumnuts name and the phrasing of the tweet:

M&S’s tweet prompted the likes of Ann Summers, PG Tips and Specsavers to respond with their own jokes:
