Boohoo introduces returns fee to offset rising shipping costs

Boohoo has quietly introduced a fee for returns as the cost of shipping continues to increase.

The fast-fashion retailer will charge customers £1.99 per parcel returned to its warehouse.

Customers will be refunded for any items returned, minus the fee. If multiple returns are made from the same order, the fee will be charged again.

However, the new charge is not applicable to Premier customers, who pay £12.99 a year for unlimited next-day delivery and free returns.

The £1.99 fee will also be implemented for shoppers using buy now, pay later schemes – such as Klarna.

Boohoo said it has had to look at where it can adapt without compromising what customers want as the cost of shipping increases.

“This has meant that we will be applying a charge of £1.99 to returns, so that we can continue to offer great prices and products and do this in a more sustainable way,” Boohoo said.

The move follows Zara’s decision to charge for online returns. The fashion giant started charging shoppers a £1.95 fee for sending back items bought online in May.
