Sainsbury’s has released its Christmas ad, which makes This Morning’s Alison Hammond as the star of a medieval fantasy.

The ad, which is narrated by Stephen Fry, focuses on a young pastry chef that tries to impress Hammond’s Countess, with his caramelised biscuit version of the Christmas pudding.

An instrumental version of noughties hit ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ acts as the soundtrack to the fairytale advert, which highlights some of the grocer’s new Taste the Difference Christmas range.

The 85-second advert is available to watch on YouTube with a 60-second version premiering on tonight.

Sainsbury’s head of campaigns Laura Boothby said: “Food plays a central role in any celebration, and we wanted to bring to life the imagination and innovation that goes into creating our Taste the Difference Christmas range.

“We also wanted the ad to provide some fun and light-hearted Christmas cheer and who better to do that than Alison Hammond?”

“The festive feast is a quintessential Christmas moment for many and the perfect setting to celebrate what Sainsbury’s does best: delicious, quality, great value food. We’re always creating and developing new recipes and Christmas is the perfect time to experiment with new twists on traditional flavours.”

Boothby said it had focused on the Christmas pudding as it knew it was “divisive”, which was why she said it had created the caramelised biscuit version.

“Pudding lovers can still opt for the traditional dessert, but those who aren’t fans can try our innovative take on the Christmas classic instead,” she said.
