Frasers Group seeks supplier payment discounts after acquisition of JD brands

// Frasers has asked the suppliers of its recently acquired JD brands for discounts on outstanding payments and orders
// The group acquired 14 businesses from JD Sports just before and after Christmas

Frasers Group has asked the suppliers of its recently acquired brands for discounts on outstanding payments and orders after reports emerged many had been left in the dark as to when they would be paid.

Drapers reports that Frasers has requested a 10% discount off outstanding payments and a 20% discount off ordered goods for spring-summer 2023.

Last month, JD Sports brands including Tessuti, Scotts, Choice, Giulio and Cricket brands were all sold to Mike Ashley’s Frasers in a £47.5m deal which was part of the 14 retail chains it said it was acquiring from the sporting retailer in December.

Shortly after the sale, the brands’ suppliers were told by Frasers that it will not be taking in deliveries for spring/summer stock or placing new orders until further notice.

It was also unclear as to when they would receive money owed to them from the acquired brands, with payments due as far back as last October for some suppliers.

Last week news broke that the group has started a consultation at the fashion brands it bought from JD Sports, placing 90 jobs at risk.

Redundancy consultations have begun at several businesses, including at Tessuti and Scotts, which are still located within the JD head office building in Bury, Lancashire.

Frasers Group did not respond to Retail Gazette’s request for comment.

Those in the redundancy consultations have been told not to speak to the press.
