Zalando offers size advice based on customers own body measurements

Zalando is giving customers a new tool to receive size advice based on their unique body measurements.

The German online fashion giant’s service is currently only available for customers in the DACH region, but is anticipated to expand to further markets in the future.

The new offering allows users to take two pictures of themselves in tight clothing for Zalando to predict a person’s body measurements and help them find the right fit for their clothing purchases.

The service follows the launch of the retailer’s virtual fitting room earlier this year, allowing customers to see how clothes will fit their personalised online avatar.

It has its own in-house team dedicated to size and fit with the team using a combination of fitting models, machine learning, computer vision, and other technologies to predict if items will run big or small.

Through the work of the team the retailer has already slashed size-related returns by 10%.

Zalando VP size & fit Stacia Carr said: “Helping customers find the right fit is an important part of deepening customer relationships.

“It is frustrating to wait for an item to then discover it does not fit. With the introduction of size advice with body measurements, we continue to leverage our innovations to help our customers with one of the main problems of the fashion industry.

“We can also continue supporting our brand partners, since this feature can provide further insights on  their customers’ size and fit requirements”.
