Tesco has confirmed it will close its Express stores early on Sunday (July 14) as England reach the Euro 2024 finals.
The supermarket giant said over 1,800 of its Express stores will close at 7:30pm, instead of the usual 10pm or 11pm, allowing all of its employees to watch the final.
The retailer’s larger stores will already be closed before the 8pm kick-off time.
Though Tesco reassured customers that stores would operate as normal during the daytime on Sunday, allowing them to purchase any essential pre-match supplies and will reopen as usual the following morning.
All online orders already placed for Sunday evening will be honoured and delivered as usual. Stores in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will maintain their regular operating hours.
Tesco is not the only supermarket adjusting its opening times around the Euros, with Lidl opening its stores an hour later than usual the day after the final.
Iceland made a similar move in 2022, when it closed on the Sunday to celebrate the England women’s squad reaching the Euro finals.
