Amazon grocery boss Tony Hoggett is stepping down from the etailer to pursue the “next step” of his career.
Hoggett, who joined the ecommerce giant in 2022 as senior vice president of worldwide grocery stores, was previously Tesco group chief strategy and innovation officer and group chief operating officer.
During his time at the online behemoth, he sought to revamp the company’s grocery arm and its approach to physical retail.
He scrapped much of the retailer’s technology focussed approach to physical retail, ditching its cashierless Just Walk Out system from its grocery stores in exchange for smart shopping carts.
Posting on LinkedIn on Friday, Hoggett said: “After nearly three years at Amazon, it’s time for the next step in my career.
“My time at Amazon has been incredible, and I’m grateful to my colleagues for their support, guidance and friendship.”
He continued: “I’m optimistic about the work Amazon is doing to improve the grocery shopping experience for customers, and have no doubt the teams will keep the momentum going in my absence. I’ll be cheering you all on.”
