Iceland enjoyed a surge in last-minute Christmas orders today (23 December) with sales doubling and website traffic tripling, as thousands of Morrisons customers turned to the frozen food specialist amid widespread issues.

Morrisons’ technical problems with its More loyalty card system left customers unable to redeem discounts. Many also reported cancelled online orders, leaving families scrambling to secure turkeys, trimmings, and festive staples just days before Christmas.

Iceland stepped in to fill the gap, with demand for its Christmas produce soaring. It said turkey sales rose by 200% in just a few hours, while items such as stuffing, pigs in blankets, and Christmas puddings also flew off the shelves.

An Iceland spokesperson said: “What a morning, sales of our Christmas produce rocketed and we were more than happy to oblige and make sure Christmas wasn’t ruined for families who switched to us.

“Like Santa, we always deliver, come rain, shine or snow. Oh and thanks Morrisons for the extra orders, Merry Christmas.”

The retailer‘s over-60s Bonus Card holders are also set to benefit from a 10% discount in-store tomorrow, providing additional support during what has been a challenging year for shoppers.
