Homebase will close 33 stores this month as administrators wind down the garden and DIY chain’s estate.
The retailer collapsed into administration at the end of November after it ran out of funding. Its brand and up to 71 of its stores was quickly snapped up by The Range and Wilko owner CDS Superstores for £25.6m.
Administrators at Teneo closed 13 Homebase stores last month, most of which have since been reopened as The Range superstores.
The upcoming closures will take the total list of branches that have closed to 52, after six shut before the end of 2024.
Teneo is handing over CDS the keys to the stores in stages, with the new owner planning to open “three stores every Friday” between now and the end of May.
CDS’ acquisition of up to 71 of the fallen chain’s stores leave 74 Homebase sites available to purchase, The Sun reported.
B&Q acquired five stores for £2.5m last month, while Sainsbury’s is understood to be in talks to buy three more sites after snapping up 10 back in August for £130m.
Homebase stores earmarked for closure in February include Abington, Alnwick, Antrim, Barnstaple, Basildon Vange, Belfast, Branksome, Cannock, Chester, Chichester Discovery Park, Craigavon, Daventry, Derby Kingsway, Folkestone, Galwally, Gateshead, Glenrothes, Harlow, Herne Bay, Hove, Inverurie, Ledbury, Lewes, Luton, Newcastle Under Lyme, Norwich Hall Road, Norwich, Sprowston, Nottingham Arnold, Saffron Walden, Selly Oak, Sleaford, Sudbury, Waltham Cross
