Asda is nearing completion of its £1bn IT upgrade, six months later than planned.
The supermarket chain is expected to finish separating its computer systems from that of former owner Walmart within the next couple of weeks, The Telegraph reported.
It comes as the British grocer has spent the last four years untangling thousands of programmes responsible for its checkouts, administration and payroll.
The changeover, dubbed Project Future, has been fraught with setbacks and delays including a botched update that led to thousands of the supermarket’s employees being paid incorrectly.
Asda avoided a multimillion-pound fine earlier this year after Walmart agreed to extend its February 2025 deadline for the project.
It is estimated that Project Future has surpassed £1bn in costs this year, after the retailer invested an additional £175m this year on top of the £900m already spent since 2021.
Asda declined to comment.
