Co-op Wholesale and Costcutter Supermarkets Group (CSG) have joined forces under a new partnership.

The partnership marks “the start of a new opportunity,” according to the groups, which brings the “collaboration and strength of both businesses to unlock greater value for independent retailers”.

Costcutter Supermarkets Group is owned by Bestway Wholesale, one of the UK’s leading independent food and drink wholesalers.

Co-op Wholesale managing director Katie Secretan said: “I am delighted to announce this new agreement which goes further than just a supply deal; we are jointly focused on true partnership as the key ingredient for mutual success, as we collectively support independent retailers to grow through our market leading propositions.”

Bestway Wholesale managing director Dawood Pervez said: “The continuation of our collaboration will see Costcutter stores continue to benefit from the market-leading full-service convenience model from Co-op Wholesale, including access to the iconic and best in class Co-op own brand products.

“Both businesses are committed to working together to continuously improve the offer, supporting retailer growth in an evolving market.”

The Co-op group rebranded Nisa as Co-op Wholesale in March, in a bid to re-affirm its commitment to the independent retail sector.

Drawing on more than 160 years of wholesale heritage, the move re-enforced the company’s commitment to drive increased value for independent retailers.

In April, the newly rebranded wholesale division secured a significant multi-year agreement with UK motorway services operator Roadchef, aimed at accelerating growth and enhancing the on-the-go retail experience.
