Supermarket giant Asda has collaborated with not-for-profit Children in Need and Farewill to offer customers a free online will-writing service.
The service is normally priced at £100 and will be available until 30 November. According to Asda, many families put off writing a will due to cost, time or uncertainty. It hopes that by removing the cost barrier, consumers will be able to make a “meaningful difference for children who need it most”.
Those who use the free service will have the option to leave a gift to BBC Children in Need, such as a set cash amount or a portion of their estate. These gifts will be used to help fund programmes such as the Fuelling Potential Programme, which helps feed families by providing meals at holiday sessions.
Jenny Maden, head of insurance at Asda Money, said: “Research suggests that in the UK, only c.44% of the adult population have a will. This leaves a significant number of individuals potentially vulnerable to intestacy laws upon their passing.
“Through this new offering, we are helping our customers take control of how their assets and belongings are distributed after their death, whilst also having the opportunity to make a meaningful charitable donation, to a fantastic cause. This is another significant step forward, in Asda supporting hard-working families, with their financial affairs.”
This comes as the retailer raised over £3 million (£3,106,401.25) for this year’s BBC Children in Need Appeal.
