Iceland has trialled an in-store robot as it seeks to bolster its retail media offering.
The machine, which is a repurposed hospitality robot produced by Neos Robotics, roams supermarket aisles. It can be used to showcase items, promote offers, and encourage customers to join the retailer’s loyalty scheme.
The supermarket tested the system at its innovation store at its Deeside HQ earlier in the year, The Grocer reported.
Posting on LinkedIn, Iceland Retail Media showed a video of the robot moving along an aisle in the supermarket, with its shelves filled with products.
The machine says: “Welcome to the store. Scan to join our loyalty club and enjoy exclusive discounts, plus extra savings.
“Merry Christmas everyone, don’t miss out on our Christmas mega deals around the store – for a limited time only.”
A digital display on the front of the robot shows a QR code encouraging customers to scan to join its loyalty club.
Customers would be able to use its touchscreen to help find products in the store, the supermarket said.
Iceland Retail Media’s post read: “The in-store robot combines mobile shelving, digital screens, and real-time engagement, getting your brand out of aisle in a disruptive and innovative way.
“Shoppers are greeted and guided by the robot’s interactive features, from touch responses to voice prompts that direct them to specific aisles.
“Beyond visibility, robots gather valuable shopper insights through interactive quizzes and engagement tracking.
“Fully autonomous, they roam the store to maximise exposure, drive awareness, and keep your brand front of mind.”
