Tesco has unveiled a three-year partnership with Mistral AI to develop “cutting edge” AI solutions, which includes a revamp of its personalised Clubcard offers.

The deal forms part of a wider strategy to embrace AI within the supermarket’s retail offer, The Grocer reported.

The tie-up will grant the retailer full access to Mistral’s commercial models, including any future developments, and its AI engineers.

It includes a commitment for the businesses to work together via a new joint “AI lab”.

Under the commitment, Mistral and Tesco’s technology experts will work together to produce new generative AI solutions for different parts of the supermarket’s business.

Tesco said that it would focus all of its AI investments on improving the experience for its shoppers, staff and suppliers, while enhancing its broader operations.

The deal is expected to cover a large number of areas, such as content development and document drafting.

Additionally, it is designed to speed up data analysis, including on the grocery giant’s Clubcard loyalty base.

Tesco data, analytics and AI director Ruben Lara said: “By bringing together our retail expertise and Mistral Al’s cutting-edge technology, we hope this partnership could ultimately save colleagues time, improve how we do things and help us to better serve our customers.

“Innovation has always been part of Tesco’s DNA, and this agreement builds on our extensive track record in developing new technology and AI solutions, in ways that ultimately benefit our customers, colleagues and suppliers.”
