London retail destination Coal Drops Yard has confirmed that it has secured three new retail signings.

Anthropologie, Basque-style cheesecake brand La Maritxu and adventure clothing retailer The Outsiders Store have all committed to the King’s Cross scheme, with new openings and expansions due this summer.

The latest deals mark a further step in the evolution of Coal Drops Yard’s retail and lifestyle offer. Landlord The King’s Cross Group noted that it hopes to ‘build on trading momentum and strengthen the scheme’s appeal’.

According to the group, sales at Coal Drops Yard rose 20 per cent year on year.

Anthropologie has signed for a 2,852 sq ft anchor unit, where it will open its 21st UK store. The womenswear, homeware and accessories retailer said the design-led destination was a strong fit for its brand and customer base.

La Maritxu has also agreed a 10-year lease for a site on Bagley Walk, bringing its burnt Basque cheesecakes to the development and further expanding Coal Drops Yard’s food and drink line-up.

Meanwhile, existing occupier The Outsiders Store has renewed its commitment to the scheme for another 10 years and will relocate into a larger 3,000 sq ft space, having traded at King’s Cross since 2018.

Jane Macdiarmid, head of retail at The King’s Cross Group, said the latest signings reflected a strategy centred on discovery, originality and long-term appeal.

She said: “Coal Drops Yard works best when there is a genuine sense of discovery – where established names sit alongside independents people actively seek out.

“Anthropologie, La Maritxu and The Outsiders each add something different, and together they create more reasons to come here, spend time and keep coming back.”

Anthropologie managing director Matt Hilgeman said the retailer was pleased to join what he described as a “highly curated, design-led destination” in central London.
