Aldi emerged as the big winner at the Retail Gazette Awards: The Game Changers, in partnership with Quinyx, last night, taking home the Best Retailer over £500m and the Workplace Game Changer Award.
The discounter edged out retailers including Amazon, Tesco and Pets at Home for Best Retailer over £500m as judges applauded its clout in the grocery sector.
The judging panel said: “Aldi has transformed the grocery sector – every supermarket is struggling to compete with them. It is the business setting the direction in grocery retail.”
The award comes just a month after Aldi leapfrogged Morrisons to enter UK grocery’s Big Four.
Retailers from the biggest businesses in the industry, including Amazon, Tesco, Asos and John Lewis gathered for a fun awards ceremony in central London last night where other winners included Lush, Mamas & Papas and Silentnight.
