Morrisons cuts prices on 650 essentials to help shoppers ahead of festive season

Morrisons is reducing the cost of hundreds of everyday essentials in a bid to help households make their money go further ahead of the busy autumn and Christmas period.

The supermarket has cut prices on around 650 items, with an average saving of 18%, covering everything from chicken breast fillets, rice and pasta, to laundry pods, kitchen rolls, and cold-and-flu remedies.

The reductions will run for four to eight weeks both in stores and online.

Morrisons pricing and customer director Alex Paver said: “We know that the cost of everyday products really matter to our customers right now. That’s why we’re cutting the prices of over 650 items, from fresh favourites to cupboard staples, so our customers can trust they’re getting real value every time they shop with us.”

The cuts include a mix of family meal staples, everyday basics, and seasonal items to help stock up for colder months, including soups and cold-and-flu tablets.

Selected promotional deals are also running, such as Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc for £7.50, Kenco Coffee 200g for £6.50, and Tetley Original Teabags 400s for £6.50.

The retailer will support the campaign with a national marketing push across TV, print, digital channels, and in-store signage to make it easy for customers to spot the reduced items.

The price cuts come amid ongoing pressure on Morrisons to retain its position in the UK grocery market, with recent analysis highlighting the risk of losing its spot as the country’s fifth-largest supermarket to Lidl.

The supermarket has been balancing investment in price and promotions with operational streamlining and job reductions in recent months.
