Ocado Group is reportedly considering axing up to 1,000 roles, as it seeks to lower costs following a challenging year at its automated warehouse arm.

The company is in the early stages of discussions over redundancies that would represent around 5% of its global workforce, The Sunday Times reported.

An announcement about the redundancies could take place as early as this month, according to the publication.

Referencing an unnamed source, the newspaper said that the majority of the redundancies were expected to occur in the business’s UK-based head office, including technology positions alongside some back office workers in legal, finance and HR.

Ocado said: “We regularly review our operations to ensure we’re set up for long-term success.

“If and when decisions are made that affect our people, we are committed to communicating with them directly and ensuring they are supported throughout.”

Ocado has been approached for comment.
