Former Tesco director Kevin Grace is taking his former employer to court for alleged unfair dismissal during 2014’s accounting scandal.
According to The Times, Grace is suing Tesco for £600,000 following his dismissal three years ago in which he was accused of gross misconduct and serious negligence.
Grace has defended his innocence in the scandal, which saw Tesco’s accounts exaggerated by £326 million and cost investors millions of pounds.

His lawyers have stated that allegations of Grace “remaining silent” were misconceived and that the former director responded appropriately.
Three of Grace’s colleagues are still undergoing a trial for fraud charges from the Serious Fraud Office and have all pleaded not guilty, while Grace was informed that he would not face any charges.
“Mr Grace’s role involved no responsibility for, or significant involvement with, Tesco’s internal financial functions, internal audit functions or with Tesco’s external audit process,” a writ issued on Grace’s behalf reportedly stated.
“He had no responsibility or authority for approving or signing off internal management accounts or external audited accounts or deciding the time that any financial costs or benefits were accounted for.”
