Mothercare chief executive Mark Newton-Jones has been put forward to take the role of IKEA‘s first UK board executive.
Pending a formal vote by IKEA‘s parent group INGKA Holding BV, the ex-Shop Direct boss could join the advisory board for the furniture giant.
He has been put forward for the role after Mothercare reported a 51 per cent rise in profits for the year under his direction.

Newton-Jones has held executive roles at Next, ran Shop Direct and recently left a non-executive director role at Boohoo.
“Ikea is a household name globally and is a hugely successful retailer in its sector. It is a privilege to be proposed to serve on the supervisory board,” Newton-Jones said.
Contending the role is Jon Abrahamsson Ring who has held a place at IKEA for over a decade.
