Argos has warned its shoppers of a new text message scam that sees fraudsters attempt to steal personal details.

The message which informs people that they can claim a £500 prize, also invites the recipient to follow a link to claim the reward.

The link, according to users on Twitter, directs to a web page that is laid out like the Argos website.

Customers are then asked to enter their personal details, including their name, age and credit card information.

Argos has confirmed that the text message is not affiliated to the retailer and is urging shoppers not to click or open the message.

Argos has also asked customers to contact the retailer if they have been sent the text message.
