Best known for its avant – garde creations, Paris based fashion house, Maison Martin Margiela has today announced plans to collaborate with high street retailer H&M.

On November 15th 2012 H&M will roll out a new product line from the Belgian born designer Martin Margiela, who has previous fashion experience with Comme des Garcons, Jean Paul Gaultier and was also the Creative Director for Hermes.

Consistent with his style of unconventionality, the collection will include both men and womenswear in around 250 of H&M‘s UK stores.

Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor at H&M, is excited about joining forces with the conceptual designer, believing it to be an important moment in fashion history.

She commented, “Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades.

“I am so excited by this collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela.

“This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment.”

Last week it was reported that the retailer will be opening two pop up shops in Covent Garden and Stratford Westfield respectively to showcase their new sportswear line in July in time for the Olympics.

H&M have already created lines with other prominent names in luxury fashion, most recently with Marni to great success, remaining true to keeping clothes quality focused and at affordable prices.

Famously reclusive Belgian fashion designer Margiela promises it will incorporate influences from his premium collection which will make it worth the wait for shoppers.

A statement from Maison Martin Margiela read: “The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further.

“We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.”
