High street pharmacist group Lloydspharmacy has today announced the appointment of Paul Johnson as its new Head of Online.

Over the last 12 years Johnson has been UK Managing Director of Europe‘s largest online pet supply retailer Zooplus, and prior to this he built the online presence for Destination Skin, a premium beauty brand that is now affiliated exclusively with House of Fraser.

Johnson will bring this extensive knowledge of operating a successful online business to the healthcare retailer, and will lead a team of online experts in charge of developing and enhancing the online proposition delivered to Lloydspharmacy customers.

He commented on his appointment: “Lloydspharmacy already has a strong brand as community healthcare experts, this combined with customers‘ desire to get convenient yet trustworthy services online gives us a real opportunity to try the newest online tactics.”

Lloydspharmacy has been undertaking a radical overhaul of its online operations this year with mobile apps, a click & collect service and a new website all launched in recent months.

This investment in improving its digital offer to customers had a significant affect on parent company Celesio‘s profits over the first nine months of the year, but Johnson remains confident that strategic moves, such as taking over online advice service Drthom.com, give the business a good platform to build from.

Johnson continued: “Our online customer has a typically different profile to our store customer. By expanding our online offer to include advice and as many special services as possible we can make a real difference to our customers even when our pharmacies are closed for the night.”

Head of Online at Lloydspharmacy sits within the company‘s commercial team and covers web and mobile content as well as other online forms of communication with customers such as mobile apps.

Lloydspharmacy operates 1,640 pharmacies across the UK and produced a turnover of £1.8 billion in 2010.
