Bicycle and car parts retailer Halfords has today announced the appointment of former Asda executive Clive West as its new Group Digital Director.

In his new role, West will be responsible for all aspects of Halfords‘ online offer, including its website, the delivery process and the trader‘s reserve and collect service.

West joins Claudia Arney, the online retail expect appointed as a non-executive director to Halfords board last year, in a new look management team for the retailer‘s digital platform.

During 2011 the retailer launched a new website, mobile site and app, further highlighting its new focus on establishing itself as a full multichannel trader.

David Wild, CEO of Halfords, said: “Our multichannel offer is a key area of development for the Halfords business.

“More and more customers are researching and shopping online. Clive‘s appointment will help us continue to progress in this fast changing area.”

For three years West worked at US-owned supermarket chain Asda where he was Operations Director for New Business and Home Shopping, and during that time he helped to launch the grocery giant‘s click and collect service and its Home Shopping Centres scheme while doubling its online grocer business.

Last week Halfords reported a 4.8 per cent drop in like-for-like sales over its third quarter period, but in response to the figures, Wild said that he was “confident that our focus areas create the right platform for future growth.”
