High street clothing retailer River Island has today announced plans to launch a capsule collection designed by pop singer Rihanna.

Set to appear in stores in Spring 2013, River Island will debut an exclusive collaboration and the artist‘s premier into the world of fashion with a UK retailer.

Ben Lewis, River Island CEO, is delighted to welcome a line from a musician who is such an influential figure for youth culture.

He commented: “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Rihanna and to be the first fashion brand to work with her in this way.

“Rihanna is a style icon, from street to chic she enjoys her fashion.

“As soon as we started to work together we knew this was a perfect fit. He added,

“Rihanna will be designing the collection and we will be sharing our fashion experience with her to develop a range her fans will love.”

Continuing to grow globally, the company now has 300 stores established in the UK and has extended its portfolio to Poland, Russia, the Middle East and the Far East.

Last week, online retailer Littlewoods announced celebrity Myleene Klass as its new brand ambassador as the TV & radio presenter has designed her first clothing collection for the successful brand.

Rihanna found River Island, a British heritage stalwart which has been trading for 64 years, an appealing partner to house a clothing range for her UK fanbase.

It was speculated back in February she would team up with the brand when the pop idol visited its HQ and subsequently tweeted a photo of her wearing a Rolling Stones t-shirt sold in store.

Commenting on the venture, Rihanna said: “I‘ve been wanting to design my own collection for some time.

“River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family run business also really appealed to me.

“I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes.

“I‘m looking forward to working with them and creating something really special.”
