Health & beauty retailer Boots is to roll out a 12 month trial to expand into the healthy convenient food market, it has been announced.

Launched in conjunction with food retail partner Musgrave, the trial will see Musgrave sell its products in 11 selected Boots stores across the UK and will include fresh meat and fish as well as ready meals.

Boots initially outlined these plans in May, emphasising the importance of creating a nutritious offering to compliment its existing brands ‘Shapers‘ and ‘Delicious‘, which have proved widely popular with health-conscious consumers.

Musgrave, which works in partnership with retailers under the Budgens and Londis brands, has a strong presence in Ireland as well as the rest of the UK and specialises in sourcing, sales, marketing and supply chain enabling its partner businesses to deliver leading competitive ranges.

Alex Gourlay, CEO of the Health & Beauty Division at Alliance Boots, welcomed the trial, which beagan in stores yesterday.

“We are very pleased to be partnering with Musgrave on this trial,” he said.

“It builds on our own extended food offer of Shapers and Delicious whilst exploring how we can deliver even greater choice and convenience for our customers through a broader food offering.”
