Tesco have signed a multi-million pound deal which will see the integration of new SMARTtill technology in Tesco stores.

10,000 point-of-sale cashdrawers by Cashbases will be rolled out in Tesco Express and superstores by the end of the year.

A Tesco spokesperson commented: “Despite the various transaction technologies available today, we find that many of our customers still use cash as their main method of payment. By giving our colleagues more time to help customers at the checkout, SMARTtill will help us to provide the very best possible customer service.”

Cash Bases say that the technology will save retailers ‘endless time‘ by automatically counting notes and coins and reconciling them to each sale made.

Phil Stone, the Managing Director of Cash Bases, added: “Cash is still used in the majority of retail transactions, but managing cash is a growing concern for management in today‘s fast-paced retail environment. Customers want speed and convenience, something the SMARTtill system is designed to expedite, whilst managing the risk of losses.”
