The best selling gift at John Lewis this week was the iPad Air as new technology continued to dominate people’s gift lists.
The £399 model, which is currently sold out on johnlewis.com, also sells its 128GB version for £739.
The iPad Air and iPhone 5s have been strongly tipped as Christmas top sellers this year.
After John Lewis’ Christmas advert ‘The Bear & the Hare’ took just 24 hours to reach 1m YouTube views, sales of Hare and Bear soft toys surged to become the second most popular gift in the department store this week.
Other popular items selling this week included the Sony 32” LED TV, Spiky Fun Ball (£2.50), which surged 436 per cent, and Reindeer Socks (£8).
Meanwhile, John Lewis reported robust sales figures which rose 7.1 per cent on last year to £91m with online sales up 23.1 per cent.
Womenswear was up 6.3 per cent year-on-year, menswear rose 6.8 per cent and childrenswear surged 16.1 per cent.
Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, said: “The cooler weather has resulted in pleasing results for our fashion assortments as people start to buy for the winter season, which we hope to see build through November. In technology, the iPad Air continues to be a bestseller, and together with a strong performance from televisions, the signs are pointing to us having a tech Christmas again this year.”
