Value fashion chain Primark has opened its 163rd Primark store in Whitefriars Canterbury, replacing BHS in the centre.

The 40,300 sq ft store, which spans three floors, joins Fenwick, Marks & Spencer and Boots at Whitefriars.

Primark is believed to be targeting Canterbury‘s large 40,000 student population with the move.

“Canterbury has long been an established and desirable destination for shoppers, which combined with its large student population, Whitefriars Canterbury presented an excellent opportunity for a Primark store

Chris Parfitt, director of shopping centres at real estate firm TIAA Henderson said: “The opening of Primark in Whitefriars Canterbury reinforces the centre‘s position as more of a ‘retail destination‘ than shopping centre, with open-plan, sympathetic architecture that compliments the historic and idyllic setting of the city”
