WHSmith is expecting its trading results for the year to August 31 will be in line with expectations thanks to a strong performance in its travel business.

In its trading update announced today ahead of next week‘s full year results, the book retailer said its high street business profits is also in line to meet expectations for the second half of the year – bolstered by the rise in popularity of colour therapy for adults.
WHSmith said its new store opening programme in the UK and internationally was also on track.

“We have been pleased with the customer reaction to our recently opened stores in Alicante airport in Spain, and we continue to see further opportunities in the international news, books and convenience travel market,” the retailer said in a statement.

“We continue to deliver gross margin improvements and cost savings in line with our profit focused strategy.”
