Morrisons has announced it will implement one-hour delivery service for Amazon Prime shoppers for full grocery shops.

In an extended deal with the online retailer, Morrisons has laid out plans to offer one hour delivery on full grocery shops in areas within London and Hertfordshire.

Expanding its range across Amazon Prime, shoppers will now be able to order thousands of products with one-hour delivery for £6.99 or two-hour delivery for free.

This follows an announcement in September that it will install Amazon lockers across its stores, as well as a deal with Ocado aiming to shift its focus on effective home deliveries.

“As food maker and shopkeeper, we have unique skills to help build a broader new Morrisons through capital light growth,” chief executive David Potts said.

“Morrisons at Amazon is another exciting joint opportunity and makes Morrisons good quality, great value-for-money products available to even more customers.”

Analysts at Shore Capital said the deal would help the grocer in the increasingly intense sector competition: “With its low market share and especially shallow reach in London and the South East, through Amazon Prime customers, the Morrison brand can gain welcome extension.”
