Ian Burke will take on the role of executive chairman at online gift retailer Findel, replacing David Sugden.

Sugden announced his intentions to leave the company earlier this year and a hunt has been ongoing ever since, with a range of candidates including Mike Ashley and former Home Retail chief executive Terry Duddy.

Burke will embark on his career with Findel on January 12 next year, and Sugden will remain for two weeks in a formal handover period.

The new executive chairman will depart from The Rank Group where he is currently chairman, having previously held positions at Thistle Hotels, Holiday Inn and Gala Clubs.

“Following a comprehensive search process we are pleased to welcome Ian to Findel,” Findel senior independent director Eric Tracey said.

“As the group continues to target further growth, the board is confident that Ian‘s experience will prove of significant value, especially given his recent role in overseeing the multichannel transformation of Rank.”
