Morrisons is poised to become the UK’s biggest florist after it expanded into the online flower market  with the launch of Flowerworld’s website.

While Morrisons has owned and operated Flowerworld since 2011, this development means bouquets will now be available on www.flowerworld.co.uk and in 491 Morrisons supermarkets nationwide.

The Big 4 retailer said 400 florists will create up to 900,000 bouquets a week, and expects 260 million flowers to pass through its new flower website every year.

Morrisons also said ordered flowers would be picked and shipped in under 36 hours – with free delivery on every order.

The retailer hopes to capitalise on the fact that Brits spend an estimate of around £2.3 billion on cut flowers and indoor plants every year.
