B&Q has started recruiting 800 new members of staff for its kitchen and bathroom showroom areas as it looks to simplify its selling processes.

The new system will move away from offering installation services, which the majority of customers use third party fitters for.

Under the new procedures, customers will only deal with one staff member throughout the sale process.

Despite the headline figures around new staff recruitment, the move will affect 700 current members of staff at B&Q: 300 from B&Q’s Homefit service and 400 from its in-store design arm.

B&Q has previously stated that no employees would be worse off as a result and that the overhauled service will produce 400 new jobs.

However, news of 800 new colleagues joining B&Q’s operations puts a question mark over the roles its current staff fulfill.
