MatchesFashion has appointed Chanel’s former chief executive Maureen Chiquet to its board as a non-executive director.

In what is a coup for the British luxury fashion retailer, Chiquet has more than 30 years’ experience in the retail sector.

She is best known as the former global chief executive of Chanel from 2007 until 2016, having joined the fashion house in 2003 as chief operating officer and president of US operations.

Throughout her nine-year tenure of the French fashion house, she maintained brand exclusivity and navigated the social media and influencer landscape.

Additionally, after Chanel a 38 per cent rise in profit it 2015, Chiquet helped harmonise the brand’s international prices and made its first, albeit limited, foray into ecommerce.

Since leaving Chanel in early 2016, Chiquet has published a book titled Beyond the Label: Women, Leadership, and Success on Our Own Terms and held speaker engagements.

Chiquet is not the only recent appointment to Matchesfashion’s board.

Trevor Mather, chief executive of automobile business Autotrader, will also join as a non-executive director.
