Dixons Travel has launched a much smaller, new format store at London Southend Airport as part of its expansion strategy.

The retailer’s new travel kiosk, at 107sq ft, is less than a quarter the size of a typical Dixons Travel store and was created to allow the retailer to expand its store estate into a smaller footprint within airports.

It also aims to provide passengers a faster and more convenient shopping experience.

Dixons Travel said London Southend Airport was chosen as the location for the first new-format store due to its rapid growth, with passenger numbers set to double over the next five years.

The new travel kiosk features a compact wall of products, offering customers top electrical brands with a range that focuses on headphones, speakers, action cameras and travel accessories.

There is also a concealed storage area, which allows for fast convenient access to stock to ensure that the customer journey is completed in optimal time.

“Following the success of our vending machines in London Southend Airport, we’re excited to be launching an innovative new store format for customers,” Dixons Travel managing director Heidi Woodhouse said.

“Our first travel kiosk has been created to specifically serve key passenger needs in Southend and our highly trained colleagues are on hand to deliver expert advice and top deals to customers without impacting on overall airport dwell time.”
