Thai & Qatari shoppers increase spending in UK

New research has found that international shoppers from Thailand and Qatar have increased their spending per transaction significantly this August in comparison to last year.

Shoppers visiting from Thailand spent on average £1131 per transaction, a 43 per cent increase compared to £789 in the same month last year, tax-free shopping experts Global Blue found.

Shoppers from Qatar showed the second biggest growth year-on-year, with a 20 per cent increase, spending on average £1649 per transaction this August in comparison to £1377 in August last year.

Meanwhile, Chinese shoppers have continued to dominate the market in tax-free shopping in the UK, with total sales in store between January and August 2019 increasing 26 per cent, and sales in August alone increasing by 31 per cent.
