Waitrose has opened a new shop in the United Arab Emitates, as it pushes on with ambitions to have 10 stores operating in the region by the end of the year.

The new store, located in The Galleria Mall – a high-end shopping destination on Al Marayah Island in Abu Dhabi – is operating under licence with Fine Fare Food Market LLC.

The new store employs 60 people and is situated in a new extension to the shopping centre, which houses a collection of international fashion and beauty retailers.

Waitrose will soon open its first shop on The Palm in Dubai by the end of the year as part of the opening of the new Nakheel Mall.

It will become the largest supermarket on the iconic man-made island, employing 80 people.

The new shops will take the total number of stores the retailer has in the Middle East to 10 since opening its first shop outside the UK in Dubai in November 2008.

“We’re incredibly proud that the quality of our products and the trust in our brand continues to appeal to the international market,” Waitrose head of B2B growth Barry Delehanty said.
