When news broke that Marks & Spencer had launched legal action against Aldi in an effort to protect its iconic Colin the Caterpillar cake, social media users had a field day.
M&S had lodged an intellectual property claim arguing that the similarity of Aldi’s Cuthbert the Caterpillar product leads consumers to believe they are of the same standard.
M&S also argued that Aldi’s product would “ride on the coat-tails” of M&S’s reputation with Colin the Caterpillar.
You can read about it all here, but in the meantime thousands of Brits have taken to social media to react to the scandal, and in true fashion they were hilarious. Even M&S and Aldi themselves waded in.
Here’s a roundup of some of the best tweets:

It’s 10am on Sunday morning and I’ve already finished a 10-minute HIT class and visited the local food bank to drop off some chocolate and #onions.
One can only speculate about Colin’s wake-up routine, but I imagine it involves oversleeping and regret about last night. pic.twitter.com/wFV5zxBxQt
