Boots to sell Covid tests for £5.99 each as free government testing ends

// Boots will start to sell Covid-19 lateral flow tests online from tomorrow priced at £5.99 each
//Other retailers including Aldi and Lidl are expected to start stocking tests in the coming months as the government scales back on free Covid testing

Boots will start selling Covid-19 lateral flow tests from tomorrow as the government scales back free testing.

The high street pharmacist will charge online shoppers £5.99 per test or £17 for a pack of four, including delivery.

Tests will also be available in more than 400 Boots stores from early March, priced at £2.50 for a single test and £12 for a pack fo five.

The move comes after the government yesterday unveiled plans to reduce the amount of free tests available for the public from 1 April as part of its ‘living with Covid-19’ strategy.

Boots UK director of healthcare services Asif Aziz said: “We are pleased to be expanding our Covid-19 testing services even further, with affordable lateral flow testing options for those who still want peace of mind from asymptomatic testing after 1 April.

“While it is great that we are returning to normal and finding a way to live with Covid-19, we encourage our customers and patients to stay safe and continue to take measures to limit the spread of the virus, especially to those in vulnerable groups.”

It is thought other retailers such as big supermarket groups will start selling Covid-19 tests. Discounter Lidl already stocks tests in its Irish and German stores, while Aldi has been offering lateral flow tests at its European stores.
