M&S names new womenswear director

Marks & Spencer is mulling the prospect of leaving or radically downsizing its central London head office, Retail Week has reported.

Marks & Spencer has promoted Maddy Evans to director of womenswear as Jill Stanton, who currently leads womenswear, kidswear and beauty is to retire.

Stanton, who has been at M&S since 2018 after stints at Gap and Nike, will step down in July, according to Drapers.

Evans is currently head of buying for womenswear and was previously fashion director at Topshop.

She will lead womenswear while menswear director Wes Taylor will take on the remit of kidswear and home director Heidi Woodhouse will be responsible for beauty.

Womenswear has long been a thorn in M&S’ side but the retailer appears to finally be turning around the category.

Over the golden quarter to 1 January, sales in clothing rose 3.2% against pre-pandemic levels.
